About the NPCOPA

Welcome to the website of the National Police Commissioned Officers Professional Association (NPCOPA). This website will provide as much information as possible about who we are, what we hope to achieve and why we believe a professional association is needed to represent the interests of the officer cadre.

Who We Are

RCMP commissioned officers need strong, knowledgeable, and experienced professional representation to press our employer for fair consideration including future market-based terms and conditions of employment. We also require independence from the employer to consult labour law and/or compensation experts while not being restrained in our communications with our membership.

The National Police Commissioned Officers Professional Association was launched in April 2022 to represent the collective interests of commissioned officers and RCMP civilian member equivalents with our employer and when appropriate, with the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Previous attempts to advocate for commissioned officers, either through the Staff Relations Representative Program, the Independent Pay Council, Member Workplace Services Program, or the Officer Consultative Committee, failed due to a lack of true independence from the organization and inability to engage or enter into agreements with central authorities directly.

The NPCOPA Executive and interim Board of Directors was formed by members who were previously part of the Officer Consultative Committee. This group, from all corners of the country, unanimously agreed to take the much needed first step and launch a professional association.

NPCOPA elections were held in early 2023 and in April 2023, with over 75% of commissioned officers as members, NPCOPA held its first Annual General Meeting, where the Board of Directors was officially inaugurated.
